Wild Earth Voices

Dawn – The Acadian Forest

Welcome,

Mark Brennan recording ice movement on a frozen lake.

Mark Brennan is primarily known for his visual art, depicting the rugged landscapes of Canada,  but expanding into the world of sound is something that has been a natural progression to deepen his understanding of the human relationship to Nature.

The awareness of the natural sound-scape is something we have mostly forgotten as industrialization and a disconnect from the natural world has increased over the last century. Venturing into remaining wilderness to document and experience the sound-scape is something Mark has taken great pleasure in, not only has it raised his own awareness but it has also deepened his personal journey.

So if there is a personal awakening from deeply experiencing the Natural Sound-scape for the individual, then what are the benefits of preserving the sound-scape? If you have ever listened to a morning chorus, anywhere in the world, you will get an idea of the incredible diversity of the Earth.

Understanding and recognizing that we humans are also connected to nature in ways many of us are unable to comprehend is a huge step forward towards stemming the degradation of the Earth’s life support systems and that for me, is what Wild Earth Voices is about, raising awareness of the Acoustic Ecology of this wonderful home we call the Earth.”
